Information about whey protein production

 Everybody want to know the wonder difference  between all the types of whey protein powder available? It's one of the most common questions I get asked in nutritional consults. The answer is simple. Ingredients and quality.

Whey protein can be made from either milk or cheese. Most people believe whey protein powders are made from milk. This is actually a misconception. High quality whey isolates or hydrolyzed whey isolates do come from milk. However, whey concentrate comes from cheese mostly. In terms of quality, hydrolyzed whey isolate is tops, followed by whey isolate then whey concentrate.

And let's examine how whey protein powders are made. It all starts at the dairy. Cows are milked and then the milk is pasteurized to kill any bacteria. Milk is comprised of both casein and whey proteins which are then separated. The whey is then filtered to remove the sugar (lactose) and the fat. This leaves us with whey concentrate. If whey concentrate is the desired product, then this whole process would start at cheese. But, we want high quality whey isolate or hydrolyzed whey for our bodies. So now the whey concentrate is dried. The powder is then filtered again using methods such as cross-flow micro filtration, micro filtration, or cold-filtering. These methods remove impurities and large molecules leaving us with the whey isolate which is then dried to form the powder.

If we want the best, hydrolyzed whey isolate, we hydrolyze the whey via a chemical processes to break the whey molecules into smaller pieces. This makes them easier and faster for the body to digest. The product is then dried to form hydrolyzed whey isolate. This is the highest quality of whey you can get. At this point, the powder is shipped to companies that add their ingredients such as enzymes, peptides, vitamin and mineral mixes, and flavorings. Then it's put in the package, sealed, and to the store's shelf.

For now that we have an understanding of how whey is made, how do we read the label to determine quality? Simple. Pick up the bag or bottle and rotate it to find the ingredients and the nutritional facts panel. Let's start at ingredients. The first ingredient listed should be whey protein isolate or hydrolyzed whey isolate. If not, it's a lower quality whey protein. Next, look on the bottle and see if it listss micro fractions such as alpha lactalbumin, glycomacre peptides, immunoglobulin, lactoferrin, and various other growth factors. Make sure that it has an amino acid profile panel that shows what amino acids are contained in the protein. These should include leucine, isoleucine, valine, glutamine, and arginine.

Lastly, determine the percentage of protein per scoop. High-quality protein powders contain 90% or more protein per scoop. So if one scoop contains 30 total grams of powder weight, we need to see how many grams of protein that contains. You're looking for 27 grams of protein or better in order to have a high-quality protein. Anything less, is just good.

And these are some basic points to help keep you informed on how to identify differences in whey protein powders. Don't fall prey to powders that taste like desserts or milkshakes. That's just what they are! Yes, they contain whey but they are more like snacks than protein supplementation. Use those products as substitutes for treats. Just don't forget to treat yourself.

Many of people look to food as a something take to feed body to move in life without the kind of food or if it healthy or not and some people when you taking about food healthy or kinds consider that as luxury in life who say that most of healthy food not expensive if you take it from nature. 
There are many reasons why we should eat healthy, however, we are going to focus on 3 benefits, 3 attractive reasons, for us to get serious about healthy eating. To be healthy we know we should eat healthy and we are aware there are a number of benefits to eating healthy. Nonetheless, most of us really struggle to say no to the sweet, fatty, salty, processed tasty foods on offer. Far too many of these foods make up a considerable part of our diet. When this is coupled with the fact that we are less active now that in previous years, it is easy to see why we are facing serious health issues in western nations. So let us look at those three benefits.

The 3 exciting benefits of eating healthy are 1) weight loss, 2) less disease and illness, 3) clearer skin. Now I know from personal experience that reasons like these have helped me to commit to eating healthy. We will briefly look at each benefit in turn starting with weight loss. Eating healthy foods can result weight loss and weight management. Trading the sweet, fatty, salty and overly processed foods for healthier more natural food has this great perk. Contrary to what many people think you are likely to eat more as your body burns up your food more quickly. Plus, a number of healthy foods speed up your metabolism.

And in another reason to put the lovely slice of cake down and grab a juicy apple, is healthier eating lessens disease and illness. Your body has the nutrients and vitamins it needs to effectively fight colds, flu and other viruses. It can reduce the likelihood of diseases like diabetes, particularly type 2 which is linked to being overweight. You can lower the risk of high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers and heart disease. These are leading causes of death in many advanced nations and changes to what we eat could help to alter that.

Lastly, a fantastic reason to exchange the excessive and binge alcohol drinking or sugary fizzy drink for water is a healthy diet can help us to be more beautiful. Toxins are flushed out, nutrients provided and digestion aided when our diet become healthier. Skin reflects this becoming clearer, smoother, brighter, less spot and blemish prone. I don't know about you but I'm reaching for the water already.

The challenge that many of us face in our bid to eat healthily is knowing what to eat and what not to eat. Some think they are eating healthy but do not see the benefits I am mentioning. So what can be done? There are many fads out there and so much information that it can become very confusing. My advice is seek a balanced eating plan or advice. Some foods posed as healthy are not good for you so will not help. It is wise to eat all food groups and any diets that totally restricts certain groups is not balanced. Eat foods that are more natural and less processed. You will probably need to search for good information but like L'Oreal says 'you're worth it'. You are worth the time and investment it may take to get the right information so you can see the results you want and deserve. Being slimmer, less prone to illness and disease and having great skin are the benefits of eating healthy that most of us really care about.

GH or HGH one of strongest supplements

This is the old bait and switch. Technically, they are not lying when they quote Dr. Rudman's number.With GH Injections, Dr. Rudman did see a 8.8% increase in muscle mass and a 14.4% loss of fat. The problem is, they are not selling GH Injections! These companies do not provide any evidence that their pill, powder or spray will have the same results as GH Injections. So, they bait you with all the positives of GH injections and then switch you to their untested supplement.
Claim: Our spray/ pill/ powder contains real GH

This statement is at best a tremendous exaggeration and at worst a complete lie. There are a couple of reasons why companies who claim to have a significant amount of HGH in their products are not being truthful. First, GH is a prescription drug. If you put significant amounts of HGH in a dietary supplement it is no longer a supplement - it is a drug. As a drug it must meet FDA approval and only sold with prescription. So, the phrase GH dietary supplement is an oxymoron. If a product has a significant amount of HGH, it is a drug.

If you remember from our GH definitions page, GH is a delicate and complex 191 amino acid hormone. This brings up the second problem with the above claim - you can not take GH orally. So, even if a company wanted to break the law and sell GH as a pill/spray or powder - it would not work because the GH would break down before it ever reaches the bloodstream.

Finally, you have a financial problem with the above claim. Give Eli Lilly a call and see how much 200 micrograms (the amount a 40 year old secretes each day) of recombinant GH cost. You will quickly find out that the math just doesn't work. How can they sell a 1 month supply for $100 when the raw material would cost over $1,000 a month?

There is a case when the above claim can be true - but very exaggerated. The FDA has determined that if there is less than 2001 nanograms (ng) of the HGH drug present in a supplement - it is NOT considered a drug. The theory is that in such small trace amounts, the drug has no impact so it is not classified as a drug. Let's look at what a nanogram is...1,000 nanograms (ng) = 1 microgram (µg)
1,000,000 micrograms = 1 gram


So, even a product that had the highest legal amount of GH would only have 2 micrograms. Dr. Rudman gave his patients 49,500 microgram - three times a week! What this means is that technically and legally you could make the claim that your product contains real GH. The problem is, that claim is pure marketing hype. It is not a significant source of GH.

We defined homeopathic medicine back on the definitions page. As you recall, the homeopathic approach works by using miniscule amounts of a substance. So, some homeopathic GH remedies could contain up to 2000 ng of real GH. In honest homeopathic products the goal is not to replace your GH with the GH in the bottle (this would be impossible). The theory is that even the smallest amount of GH can stimulate your own body to produce more GH. This stimulation theory may be valid and we will discuss it more on our GH enhancer article.
Claim: Our product is FDA approved ...

There are no FDA Approved Dietary Supplements. The simple truth is that the FDA does not approve or disapprove of Dietary Supplements. The Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 says that Dietary Supplements do not need FDA approval. This is why there are so many supplements on the market - there is no approval process. The best advice is buyer beware.
Are there any GH supplements worth taking?

Luckily, yes. I know this article has been pretty depressing so far, but if you search through all the misinformation out there, sometimes you find the needle in the haystack.

Research indicates that the best way to elevate GH levels is to stimulate the body to produce more GH.Rather than introduce more GH into the body, you can stimulate your own pituitary gland to produce more GH. Remember that studies have shown that an old pituitary gland has the same capacity to produce GH as a young pituitary gland. If we can find a way to stimulate our pituitary gland we will have the best of all worlds. You are not introducing a foreign GH, so you eliminate the side effects. Also, our body is very good at self regulating - it will not produce an excessive amount of GH which could be harmful. In effect, you body knows best what the correct dosage of GH is to release for your body.

In other words, you are setting up an uphill battle for yourself if you ever want to lose weight. It's going to need a tremendous amount of effort to gain muscle and burn away all that excess fat.

After you workout, you must remember to eat well. In fact, you are forced to eat. But what you eat matters as well. Bodybuilders always eat high protein meals. If you find that you can't stick to a strict high protein diet like the pros do, just remember to take your protein supplements. Many people take protein shakes as a supplement because they are easy to prepare and they taste like ordinary smoothies.

Beta alanine effects in players left weights and in bodybuilding world

 Beta alanine is an amino acid which is scientifically proven to reduce fatigue. It works via a chemical known as carnosine -- beta alanine is the limiting factor in human carnosine levels.
Beta-alanine supplements have been shown to increase the concentration of carnosine in muscles. This then decreases fatigue in athletes and increases total muscular work done. Carnosine (which is highly concentrated in muscle and brain tissue) buffers against fatigue and is an antioxidant, and supplementing with Beta-alanine gives you higher levels of this beneficial compound.
We find that Beta alanine supplements give an endurance boost with running and swimming, but it also helps get a few extra reps when lifting weights. It may also give the immediate effect of a nitric oxide pump. You may notice a slight skin-tingling sensation after taking Beta alanine, but the feeling will subside and it is not harmful for you.

And a direct correlation between carnosine levels in the muscles and athletic performance (1). Incidentally, this increase in performance is not restricted to activities primarily performed by Type II muscle fibers. In other words, aerobic capacity seems to be increased as well.

And they corroborate the claim that supplementation with beta-alanine increases levels of muscle carnosine (2,3). One study (4) concluded.

"Beta-alanine supplementation appears to improve submaximal cycle ergometry performance and TTE (time to exhaustion) in young women, perhaps as a result of an increased buffering capacity due to elevated muscle carnosine concentrations."

And lastly, they add credence to the advertising claims that proclaim beta-alanine supplementation is helpful for athletic performance (5,6,7).

The optimal dosage appears to be between 4.5 and 6 grams per day, although some studies have been performed with much less. A safe bet would be 5 grams per day, regardless of training schedule.

What are the beta alanine side effects?

The most common side effect associated with supplementation is an itching or tingling in the extremities. This is normal, not dangerous, and tends to diminish in severity over time. No long term studies have been performed on beta alanine supplementation, although studies up to 8 weeks in length showed no adverse effects.

What is the best way to supplement?

Purchase it isolation (AllMax, NOW and Ultimate Nutrition all offer beta alanine products) or buy a dedicated supplement like Isatori's H+ Blocker. That way you can ensure you are getting an ideal dose. Most readily available pre-workout supplements that contain beta alanine in their formulations do not contain an optimal dosage.

In conclusion, beta alanine is relatively safe and is backed by some credible scientific data validating its effects on athletic performance. It is definitely a supplement worth experimenting with, if you are interested in taking your training to the next level.

As such, there are basically three types of energy that the human body can use as fuel. One of these is carbohydrates, in the form of simple, such as fruit, or complex, such as grains. Sure, you might actually lose weight overall, but the goal is to lose body fat and not muscle. Since muscles burns more calories than other tissue, it is important to keep as much of it as possible.

The best way to get your necessary supply of branch chain amino acids is by supplementation. Post-workout is one of the most important times to fuel your body with aminos because it feeds them directly to your starving muscles. Although there are several protein blends that contain a generous portion of branch chain amino acids, you might be better off purchasing a BCAA supplement too.

BCAA supplements come in both pill and powder form, which means you can find them in whatever form suits you best. As we mentioned earlier, there are also diets modeled entirely from protein, but you should always consult with your doctor, because depending on the types of proteins you ingest large amounts can be harmful to your health.

Training and nutrition in bodybuilding world

Putting on muscle is easy if you have the know-how and combine it with hard work. But even if you have the right training program and work hard, staying on course can be challenging at times.

There's a pitfall at every corner of the gym, waiting for both the complacent and the overzealous. In this piece, I have outlined what I believe are the ten most dangerous pitfalls to making progress on your physique. Ignore them at your own peril.

1. Not Training Hard Enough: You may think you're training hard enough, but are you really pushing it on each set? If you're not pushing yourself to the point where you cannot perform another repetition on each set, you're not training hard enough.

In order to stimulate muscle growth, you have to push each muscle group to the point that it fails, i.e., where you cannot perform any additional unassisted repetitions. It is at this point that your brain receives a signal from the muscles indicating that it needs to stimulate additional muscle growth in preparation for the next bout of exercise.

Your goal throughout your workout should be to progressively fatigue the target muscle group more and more with each succeeding set, until you reach point where that muscle group is totally fatigued. This is called training to failure.

Unlike other failures in life, this is a good failure to have because it signals growth. In between sets, you should rest only long enough to catch your breath, which will give your body the ability to cancel the oxygen deficit that builds up during each set. Once you have caught your breath, it's time to go on.

This leaves very little time for chatting with friends in the gym or indulging in other distractions. It should be your goal to get into the gym, get the job done and get out. Do not mistake training hard with training for a long time.

It's not the amount of time you spend in the gym that counts, it's the quantity and quality of the work you put in. Keep the intensity high and keep the growth coming.

2. Training Too Long: If you're spending more than an hour in the gym, you're training too long. The time trap is a common pitfall, especially amongst beginners, who often think that if 30 minutes of exercise is good, 60 minutes will double their results. That is absolutely not the case.

There is an inverse relationship between intensity and workout duration. In other words, you can train hard for a brief amount of time, or you can train with sub maximal effort for a long amount of time, but you can't both train hard and train long.

Staying in the gym too long leads to poor results. In the best-case scenario, your workouts will be ineffectual, because you never truly reach the point at which your muscles are fatigued. A workout comprised of a series of less than maximal sets will do little to stimulate further progress.

In the worst-case scenario, you end up over-trained. That means you end up doing much more than your body can recover from, and hence, your progress takes a beating. A good rule of thumb is to train intensely, limiting the work out for each muscle group to 20-30 minutes. Get in the gym, get the job done, and get out.

3. Eating Too Much: In the old days we were told to train hard and then eat as much of meat, potatoes, milk, eggs and other high calorie foods as we could, but in retrospect, this only addressed the caloric part of the nutrition equation.

Focusing solely on calories doesn't address other very important nutritional factors like macronutrient ratios at each meal and meal frequency throughout the day. Yes, you need to consume more calories than you're burning off on any given day.

After all, a small surplus of calories is necessary for growth. But additionally, the macronutrient profile of each your meals needs to stay within a specific range; I prefer a diet that is 50% complex carbohydrates 30% protein and 20% fat by calories when I am trying to put on muscular size.

All too often, the "all you can eat mentality" that is adopted by those eager for muscle size destroys well laid plans. Eating too much at one meal overtaxes your digestive system, making it difficult for you to be hungry when it's time to eat again three hours later.

Meal frequency is more important than pigging out. Every serious bodybuilder needs to consume 5 to 6 small meals during the day. If you act like a human waste disposal at each meal, your appetite is going to be destroyed when it comes time to eat again 3 hours later. So eating indiscriminately can hurt your progress. Eating the right things is important.

I start out every day with Lean Body Breakfast MRP, which supplies me with 40 grams of protein, 35 grams of complex carbs, 7 grams of fiber and EFA's. Then throughout the day I will eat a well rounded diet consisting of 5-6 small meals that contain at least 40 grams of protein, plus lots of complex carbs, fruits and vegetables.

4. Not Resting Enough: Too much of a good thing can hurt you. Training is wonderful, but you have to be able to recover from it. You must rest at least 72 hours in between large body parts and at least 48 hours in between small body parts to fully recover. Many seasoned professionals won't train a body part more than once per week.

When you are expending maximal effort in the gym, i.e. you're training as hard as possible with very heavy weights, it taxes your body tremendously. Remember that it is outside of the gym, while you are resting that your muscles are actually growing. Rest time must not be underestimated.

Quality sleep is important; research shows that we actually need more sleep than we think. 8-9 hours for a growing bodybuilder is a minimum.

If you are a hard gainer, or you have a fast metabolism, you should limit your extracurricular activities outside of the gym.

Working out and then participating in highly energy intensive activities such as playing basketball, football, etc. several times per week will actually increase the recuperative time needed in between workouts, not to mention increasing nutritional needs. Keep these things in mind as you are trying to put on muscular weight.

5. Not Sticking To Basic Exercises: In bodybuilding, the steady ship wins the race. Stick to basic heavy exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and military presses as the foundation of your training at all times. These exercises are compound movements which incorporate the use of more than one joint and several large muscle groups. They have the most profound effect on muscle growth by taxing the maximal number of muscle fibers in the major muscle groups.

Many beginning bodybuilders lose sight of the fact that it takes time to gain muscle. When muscle gains don't come as fast as they would like, or the first time they hit a plateau, they think about changing basic exercises. Many will look to the pro's programs featured in muscle magazines for ideas. This leads them to discard time-proven basic exercises.

What most fail to realize is that the professionals featured in magazines have built the bulk of their physiques using basic exercises and that the exercises presented in their magazine workouts are advanced and used for shaping and polishing their physiques.

These finishing exercises do not do as much as the basic exercises in promoting muscular bulk, so if you want to grow stick to basics. Leave the shaping exercises to advanced bodybuilders and pro's.

6. Lack Of Motivation: In order to succeed, you must be a person who is able to perform hard work repeatedly over a long period of time. Persistence is one virtue that bodybuilding has taught me over the years. You must have something that "fires you up" and gets you into the gym.

You must clearly define your purpose for being in the gym and expending the hard work in the first place. And let's face it, the diet needed to support your workouts is not easy either. It requires a commitment of discipline, time, energy and effort. Motivation can be built, just like a muscle. But it requires a crystal clear idea of why you are doing this in the first place and constant reinforcement of that idea.

7. Not Setting Goals And Timelines: It is all too easy to fall into a routine. Over the long run, routines can be beneficial, but they can also be self defeating if you fall into the habit of just "going through the motions."

To keep yourself positively motivated in the gym you should always have a goal in mind whether that is an extra half-inch on your arms, getting into the best shape of your life for an upcoming competition. It is important not only to set goals but to also to put time lines on them.

In other words, you might give yourself a timeline of 8 weeks to attain that half inch you want on your arms. Once you have a goal and a timeline, you can positively motivate yourself to reach it. You become a man on a mission, so to speak, and all of your efforts take on new meaning. Always have a goal and a timeline in mind when you go into the gym to train.

8. Not Competing: Not everybody wants to become a competitive bodybuilder. Competing bodybuilders are those who enter bodybuilding competitions such as those sanctioned by the NPC around the country. But there are other ways of competing that don't involve stepping onto the posing dais.

You should compete against yourself at least once per year. But if not on the contest stage, then how do you compete against yourself? Quite simply, set a 10-12 week timeline to get into the best condition possible.

During this time, commit to restricting your calories and increasing your aerobic activities and training to shed excess body fat, just like you would if you were competing against others in a bodybuilding show. Take before pictures and after pictures.

The best time of the year to do this is in the spring after a heavy fall and winter phase of mass building. It is my experience that I have become a better bodybuilder after each of my competition periods. Why? Because "cutting up" does several things for you:

First, it gives your digestive system a break from all of the extra calories during the year. This makes it more efficient, so that when you do start increasing your calories again, your absorption of nutrients is improved.

Secondly, dieting down combined with hard training results in the release of growth hormone, which helps the physique to grow again in the post diet phase.

Third, muscle quality improves. Most pre-contest training consists of higher repetitions and more sets, which contributes to muscle quality, i.e., muscularity, vascularity, and separation. Most importantly, competing gives you a clear idea of just how good your physique truly is, and helps you identify weak points and strong points.

9. Skipping Workouts: If you want to grow, consistency is the key. Your system is a biological organism, and as such, it needs stimulation at regular intervals. For maximum progress, you must keep a regular schedule. Skipping workouts just retards progress, and at the very best is a step backwards.

Now, every so often I will either skip a workout or do a lighter workout intentionally if I'm feeling that my body is not completely recovered. However, skipping multiple workouts for no reason other than it didn't fit in your schedule or you just didn't feel like it is a losing proposition.

This sets you up for failure both physically and mentally. Physically because you won't see the progress you desire and mentally because it creates a bad habit. Stay consistent with your workouts and you will enjoy the best results.

10. Failing To Expand Your Horizons: This is a pitfall that primarily plagues bodybuilders who are well advanced in the number of training years. What happens is that these advanced bodybuilders get set in their ways and develop hard and fast habits, which are hard to break.

Most of these advanced bodybuilders are so sure that what they're doing is right and that their way of training is the only way of training that they fail to expand their horizons by trying new things. New techniques should be incorporated from time to time. By trying out new things, you can break out of training plateaus and enjoy new muscle growth.

While it's important to keep your base of fundamental exercise, it is also important to try new things to jar muscle growth. It is also important to use a variety of exercises both to round out your physique and keep your workouts fresh. Keeping your bodybuilding workouts fresh not only helps you to develop more muscle in but also keeps the workouts interesting, an important factor in keeping your motivation high.

Bodybuilding is a journey. It takes time to do it right and learning how to identify and avoid these common pitfalls can speed you along your way. Take stock of your workout, nutrition and rest habits today and challenge yourself to improve. By doing so you can bet that you will improve your physique.

Foods were related to allergies

What is an allergy?
An allergy is a catch-all word for a wide variety of reactions to substances that the body determines to be foreign. Anything that it does not recognize as itself can be considered an allergen. When the body encounters a foreign substance, it reacts by making antibodies or releasing certain chemicals called histamines. When histamines and other substances are released into the system, they cause an inflammatory reaction we call an allergy.
 
What are the symptoms?
The inflammatory reaction affects the tissue and organs, mainly the skin, mucous membranes, lungs and gastrointestinal tract.

Symptoms commonly produced include itching and watery eyes, runny and congested nose and sinuses, sneezing, respiratory symptoms, headache, skin reactions and rapid heart beat. Other symptoms may include fatigue, intestinal gas or pain, abdominal bloating and mood changes.

Primary external factors causing allergies
Natural environmental substances: Mold, spores, pollen from trees, flowers and grasses, dust (actually dust mites), animal hairs and insects are common substances that normally produce upper respiratory symptoms (allergies ) in sensitive individuals. These allergy producing substances may cause itching, redness and fluid (water & mucous) may affect the eyes, throat, nose, sinuses, bronchial tubes, and lungs.

Foods: Any food may be an allergen. The most common are wheat, milk, eggs, com, yeast coffee and chocolate. These may affect most body systems, with the gastrointestinal, nervous, respiratory and skin areas affected the most when allergies occur.

Chemicals: Both environmental chemicals and food additives can cause allergy reactions, such as pesticides, chemical sprays, hydrocarbons, and hundreds of others. Tobacco also contains many allergens.

for children may be avoiding foods that they don't need to avoid. A recent study published in the Journal of Pediatrics found that majority of foods identified in positive allergy tests were actually safe for the children tested.
The study looked at 125 children with eczema who had positive blood tests and skin prick tests to foods and who were avoiding those foods. After oral food challenges in the doctor's office, researchers found that between 84% and 93% of the foods were safely re-introduced into the children's diets. There were no eczema flares following the challenges or re-introduction of foods.

The easy availability of allergy blood testing may be leading to children being diagnosed with allergies they do not have. The researchers warn that children may be unnecessarily restricting their diets, which may lead to malnutrition and poor growth.

The researchers recommend that any child who has a positive allergy test be referred to an allergy clinic for safe oral food challenges before a food is completely eliminated from their diet.

Best Weight Training Program


All exercises were performed using strict form for 3 sets each resting around 1 minute in between sets. For repetitions, I would perform the following periodization model:

Weeks 1-2: 13-15 reps
Weeks 3-4: 10-12 reps

Weeks 5-6: 8-10 reps

After week 6, I would start over at the 13-15 repetition range. Also, I would change the order in which I would perform the exercises for each body part in order to keep the body guessing.

Cardiovascular Exercise

I would perform cardiovascular exercise in the form of walking on the pavement either first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for 30-45 minutes, or right after the workout if for whatever reason the morning was not an option. On the final 6 weeks I had to do 45 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes right after the workout later on.

Diet consisted typically of five low carbohydrate days and two high carbohydrate days, which most of the time were Mondays and Thursdays. This strategy worked as it prevents the body from adapting to the diet. At times, my trainer would add an extra high carbohydrate day while other times he would take one away. It all depended on how my body was reacting to the program.

Body Physiology- Secrets Exercise to lose weight

  The body normally burns a mix of carbohydrate, as glucose, and fat for fuel. How much of either depends on your physical activity and if, or what you have eaten recently. When you use more energy than you take in from food and drink, the body burns stored fat and carbohydrates, and then even protein, to fuel your everyday activities even if you are not exercising

That’s what happens when people starve of course; the body starts to eat itself. Depending on your family history -- your genetics -- and the way you eat and exercise to create this energy deficit, your body may decide to get conservative and drop your metabolic rate to try to hold onto body weight. Some of us seem to have inherited this tendency more than others, the origins of which may be in the early periods of human evolution where 'feast or famine' was more or less the norm.

Glucose, fat and protein. Even so, starvation always works eventually and the body starts to break down its own tissue for fuel. Stored carbohydrate called glycogen is quickly used up, then goes the fat stored under the skin and around the internal organs. Protein in muscle is then broken down to create glucose to keep the brain working and you conscious.

Fat and glucose are the body’s two main energy sources. Fat you know well, glucose comes mainly from carbohydrate foods like rice and bread and potatoes and protein is supplied mainly by meat and beans and dairy products. The amino acid building blocks of protein foods can be converted to glucose in emergencies. Your body always burns a mix of fat and glucose except at very high intensities, and the ratio of the fat and glucose in 'the burn' varies with intensity and time of exercise.

Fat burning zone. You may have noticed that some bikes and treadmills at the gym have a setting that says “fat burning zone”, which implies a setting for intensity or speed. The reason for this is that the body burns a greater percentage of fat at a slow pace (or after about 90 minutes of exercise). The fat burning zone, a low intensity speed zone is mainly a gimmick, and here is the reason.

Even though you burn more fat going slowly, you still burn a percentage of fat at much faster speeds or intensity. It all boils down to how much energy you expend in totality. For example, if you compare exercising at a slow rate that burns 60 percent fat and 40 percent glucose and a higher intensity or duration that burns only 30 percent fat and 70 percent glucose, you may still burn more fat at the higher intensity.

A typical example. Exercise (1) is the slower 60/40 mix and exercise (2) is the faster, 30/70 mix of fat and glucose fuel.

1. Walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes -- 180 calories used -- 108 calories of fat burned

2. Running on a treadmill for 30 minutes -- 400 calories used -- 120 calories of fat burned

You can see from this example that the bottom line really is how much energy you expend -- and that is the ultimate fat burning measure. The theoretical fat burning zone is mostly a convenient myth.


Weight Training Does it Better -- Or Does It?
Muscle burns more fat. Weight training is increasingly recommended as a fat-busting tool because some experts say extra muscle burns more energy than body fat at rest, so if you develop more muscle and have a higher muscle to fat ratio than before, you must burn extra energy and more stored fat as a result. This is true and has been shown in metabolic studies. However, the differences are not that dramatic; perhaps less than a few tens of calories per day for each pound of muscle increased, for most people.

Does that mean you shouldn’t worry about weight training? Certainly not, because weight training has many other benefits for health and performance, not the least of which is extra muscle. It’s just that this advantage has been somewhat overstated and we need to get this fat burning thing right in order to develop the best weight loss and performance programs.

Getting the afterburn. Okay, so extra muscle does not provide that much advantage, but what about the afterburn? The 'afterburn', or the amount of energy you use after you stop exercising, has been promoted as an important slimming idea. If you can get afterburn, which is really another way of saying your metabolism increases for several hours or longer after a particular exercise, then that’s a bonus because you burn fat during the exercise and after you cease as well. Will the fun ever stop!

However, this idea has recently been reconsidered as well. An article in the Journal of Sports Science reported that despite some promising early studies of this effect, the idea has not proven to be as useful as first thought.

Exercise scientists call this afterburn effect EPOC, which stands for Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption. The authors of that study say that the high intensities required -- greater than about 75 percent of maximum heart rate -- are probably beyond what most people wanting to lose weight can cope with in sustained exercise. So the afterburn advantage from lifting weights or running fast is there, but you need to be able to sustain that intensity, which means a lot of hard work. No secrets there, I'm sure.

We also need to consider how fuel is used preferentially according to how your body stores are maintained. After you do a vigorous or long workout, your blood and muscle glucose will be much lower than before you started. Low glucose stores signal the body to burn fat preferentially. So after hard exercise that uses a lot of glucose, the body switches to burning fat. That's why all Prevenergy expenditure is important, not just fat burning during exercise.

Strength training has so many great things going for it that I'm a big fan -- increased strength, more muscle and body shape, better balance and bone density and improved functionality across all facets of human movement. But let’s be honest, we all need aerobic or cardio training as well. It has its own set of important functional benefits including general fitness, elastic arteries, increased heart and lung function and lower blood pressure to name a few benefits.

Lifting weights can easily move us into the high intensity exercise zone above the 75 percent effort required to get some afterburn, but it's only for short bursts. This is not consistent, steady-state effort and does not generally burn as much energy as a good run on the treadmill, cycle or row machine at moderate pace. For example, here are the energy expenditure calculations for weights versus cardio for one hour of exercise from the NAT Nutritional Analysis Tools web site. I've based this on a 150 pound person (just under 70 kilograms).

1. Running at 8 minutes a mile pace (5 min/km) -- burn 852 calories (kilocalories)

2. Weight lifting, vigorous, free weights or machines -- burn 409 calories (kilocalories)

I’ve tried to line these activities up for effort so that the comparison is worthwhile. Whenever I check these numbers it astounds me because I run and I lift weights, and sometimes I feel much fresher after a run than going for it in the gym with sub-10 RM (repetition maximum) and three sets of ten exercises. Nevertheless, the numbers always come out the same with any reputable energy calculator. Sustained aerobics always spends about twice the energy of weight training in a comparable comparison. You can see from this why cardio sessions are important for fat loss.

Should I Exercise Before Breakfast to Burn More Fat?

The answer is 'not necessarily', because even though you will burn more fat on an empty stomach, ultimately this will probably make little difference because your energy intake and expenditure and metabolism balances out, more or less, over the 24-hour period. What really matters is your total energy intake and expenditure, that is, how much you eat and how much you exercise and move in general.

However, stay tuned on this because until this is examined further scientifically, how much meal timing manipulation could help with fat loss is not certain. One thing that seems clear is that people who eat breakfast maintain weight better and lose fat quicker, so don’t skip breakfast.

The Best Strategy for Fat Loss

So where are we at with our fat burning project? Here is a summary.
 
Increase muscle with weight training. Extra muscle helps to burn more energy at rest, even if only a little. This is called the resting metabolic rate of muscle or RMR. Extra muscle will also burn more fat in active phase, the active metabolic rate if you like, or the AMR, so having more muscle will definitely help burn more energy and fat.

Lift heavier weights. What I suggest is that the weights workout should be vigorous, with the number of repetitions kept at the low to medium end of the scale between 8 and 12 RM. To remind you, the RM is the repetition maximum, which means the most weight you can lift for this number of reps before fatigue. The 8-12 is within a range that should provide strength and bigger muscle growth, which is called hypertrophy.

If you go higher than this, say 15 to 20 repetitions to a set, or more, you are getting into the range where you would probably be better off doing cardio because the return on effort, the energy burn, is better spent jogging, cycling, stepping or rowing. At that number of repetitions you won’t build much muscle either, so very high-repetition training with weights has minimum value in my view.

Do aerobic exercise. Considering how much energy you would use in an hour of either type of exercise, weights or cardio, you must do some consistent aerobic or cardio work to burn fat.

Try high-intensity cardio. High-intensity exercise, even if only in short bursts, may rev up the metabolism and get that fat mobilized in the post-exercise period. Do some high intensity as well, but don’t overdo it, because burning the fat is a long-term project and you don’t want to get ‘burned out’. A group exercise program such as a solid cycle spin class might match this requirement. In fact, I highly recommend group cycle spin classes where you are encouraged to go fast, yet with the option to slow down if you need to.

Weights and Cardio Circuit Training Programs

Combining weights and cardio in a circuit interval session is also an excellent approach to fat burning. The weights circuits are based on the idea of mixing high and low-intensity weights and cardio in a circuit. This idea is not new, but what I've designed uses basic equipment and is easy to follow.

Training As Little As 3 Times A Week

You can train with weights as little as three times a week, just 45-60 minutes per session. After weigh training I want you to do 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise to burn off the fat even faster. You can also do up to 45 minutes of cardio if you're up for it, but no more than that. I will leave that up to you. 

Alternatively, you can do your cardio on your days off from the weights. The best time to do it in this case is as soon as you wake up on an empty stomach since research indicates that more body fat is burned when performed on a fasted state since glycogen (stored carbohydrates) levels are low. A walk outside or on a treadmill will get the job done but in reality, you can choose any machine you like. However, do not underestimate the power of waking in the pavement. 

There is no need to spend your life in the gym. That is what the commercials tell you on TV, to sell you their 'new innovative' product. But it's really not that hard; actually you will find yourself enjoying doing the exercises. Time flies by as you're occupied and before you know, you're done. You just need to get up and go. I promise that you'll feel great when you're done!

7Foods That You Thought Were Good for Weight Loss But in Real life Are Not

It baffles me how people can be so misled by a nutrition label or see the words “0 Fat” and the food item immediately migrates from the shelf to their shopping cart thinking that it will aid with their weight loss goals. These are some of the deceptive tricks companies use that have caused you to suck at losing weight for so long.

This is the reason why I decided to expose 7 foods that you thought were healthy and could aid you with weight loss, but in reality, they have been a road block that has prevented you from reaching fat loss success.
Here are the 7 weight loss blocking foods:

  •  Cereal
I am so sorry to be the one and burst the bubble, but cereal is deceiving too many people. While there are several types of cereals and nutritional values for each, the majority of them are fairly high in sugars and sodium.
· Canned Foods

While this may be a surprise to many, canned foods are deceptive and should be avoided if possible. The reason for this is because in order to preserve the quality and taste of the food item, they are loaded with sodium, sugars, trans fats and saturated fats. All of these items will prevent weight loss.

  •  Processed Foods
Foods that are processed (like boxed meals) tend to contain bad fats (saturated fats) and contain little nutritional value. It is best to stay away from these foods as there are alternative choices that can be used. A great alternative to processed food is to purchase anything that is all natural if possible. They tend to be lower in sodium and saturated fats.
  •  Pasteurized Milk
Pasteurized milk should be avoided due to the fact that when milk is pasteurized, it tends to destroy some of milk’s important nutrients like iodine for example. Therefore, to get the most benefits from milk, I recommend that you get the raw milk instead.
  •  Fruit Juices & Sodas
Although fruit juices may taste great and help quench your thirst, most are loaded high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This ingredient is also used as a sweetener and is practically half fructose and half glucose. Unfortunately, it wreaks havoc with your insulin levels as it hits your blood stream very quickly. As a result, the high insulin coupled with the high concentration of simple carbs in the blood leads to fat storage.
  •  Frozen Meals
Anytime you go to the grocery store and head towards the frozen food section aisle, you will find a few common denominators. Most of them are high in sodium and fats. The reason for this is to make sure the quality and taste of the food do not diminish. Sodium and trans fatty acids help to preserve the food and should be instead substituted for an all natural source of the same food.


  •  Bread
While I recommend eating bread as a part of adding variety to your diet, consuming it in excess can be dangerous! In addition, some breads are high in corn syrup and trans fatty acids. Thus, if you choose to eat some breads, make sure that they are all natural and limit your consumption to 2-3 slices at a time.
